Yes, my thoughts pretty much. For the existing resolutions in the .exe it must say something like, "for abc resolution, read file abc in hud.zrd"
although I wonder if it's possible there are entries in the .dll file that follow in that kind of link? I have looked through it a hundred times and I don't recall entries having to do with resolution but I can check again.
I'm very cautious about who I give the workbench to. What would you be interested in doing with it?

If you searh for keywords "hud.zrd" maybe you'll find the right script used for the .exe in the other resolutions related to the hud, and maybe with your program you can tell it to go to the hud files we're adding rather than the default?

orrrrr, I could go to that small resolution which NOBODY uses anymore, and change it there! What would be a good default resolution to use for my new settings?

Ok, so since this thread is getting so long I thought I'd write a summary of resolutions we're going to be doing:
1280x720 1440x900 1600x900....successful, although I'm not sure I did this one. I either based this one off 16x12hundred, or the other way around. 1600x1200....this is in the hud file and needs to be tested. either I already did it, or it was stock. 1680x1050 1920x1080...work in progress
Are any missing we should include?

Yeah! That almost did it. Only the jump indicator is on top of the speedgauge. Taking a closer look at hud.zrd, there is very little indication in the exe what it does. You can scratch 1366x768. I also added 2560x1440 but there are some glitches. Apparently the game doesn't like being pushed that far. Another thought. Is it possible to extract hud.zrd with your tool? With some games it's possible to decompress the resource files and just put them in the game directory. That way hud.zrd would be independent from reader.zbd and we wouldn't have to worry about interfering with other mods.

it's possible to extract it, but to get the .exe to execute it, it has to be in the reader.zbd. Eventually I need to learn how to make an installer that does that so that I can install sub-files rather than the whole file. Been thinking about that for a long time.

Oh, with your idea...we could put it outside the reader.zbd and with your outside program you could tell the .exe to execute it with your resolution fixes...tell it to override the one in the reader file? But then you'd have to find the default command is in the .exe...don't know man, what do you think?

This works with some games.

So did it work? waiting... And what's the next resolution? Oops, didn't notice you posted another reader file. This one is perfect. Next resolution would be 2560x1440. I had a look at the part of the exe that loads the hud. It might be doable with some modifications. Can you send me the uncompressed file with your hud adjustments so I can give it a try?
