So, I recently found out about a Widescreen Patch for MechWarrior 3 and decided to try it out, and it works great! I even used 1600x900 with no problems. Except one. The HUD for the game isn't displayed correctly. It appears in a corner of the screen and that's it. I'm guessing the reason for this is because something in the games files specify how the HUD should be displayed for each resolution. Of course, the game stores all of its stuff in unique ZBD files that I can't open with... well, anything. Even if I did open them, I'd have no way to put them back together. Anyone know how to open these darned things? Thanks in advance!

I can open some of them, but it seems to me EOP did something that helped with that. I'm not sure where in any zbd files this would be dealt with, if at all, and I've been poking in them for over 10 years. There is one subfile in the main reader that might affect it, but it might not. It seems to me that a while back EOP was working on enabling the game to be played in different resolutions, but I don't know why only the HUD would be a problem if the rest of the game screens worked with the new res. Whatever the issues is, it's more likely somewhere in the .exe file.

Ok, actually I just looked again at it. Yes, there's a file where the position of the items in the HUD can be adjusted. Send me a screen shot of your HUD in this resolution. 1600x900 does not have a position setting in this file, therefore the game won't recognize it for HUD. I can add it and send it to you to try, but I'll have to figure out the positions. It does do 1600x1200, so try that resolution if you can. If you still want me to do the added entry I will, but as I said, I'll have to figure out the positions.

Sadly no, my monitor is 1600x900 max. 1600x1200 crashes the game since my monitor can't display it :/

Ok, I'm going to make a project out of this but I'll need help. First we'll make a list of what resolutions to add, the first 3 being the ones you just tried. Next, since I do the mod work on an xp pc and I don't think I can test the new resolutions I'll need help testing them, so I'll send you the file to try when it's done and judge how close it is by your screenshots. Sound good?

Sound good? Sounds good. I have one or two PCs I can test with (this main one is 1600x900, the other one should work and runs Windows 8 with 1920x1080). I guess the resolutions that would be best to add would be 1280x720 (common widescreen res), 1366x768 (common laptop res), 1600x900 (relatively common res), and 1920x1080 ( most common res it seems nowadays).

Ok Speedy, I'm going to start working on this soon. I need to know, do you have the weapons module loaded or original Mech3? Also, that picture you posted about 3 posts back of 1600x900...I thought you originally said that resolution was fine? Can you double check that?

Yes, 1600x900 is fine. 1920x1080 is the only one so far that makes the game crash.

I'm starting this here so we know where we are. Linking original thread to this thread. Latest test files will be in this post. reader.exe (256.5 KB) Here is a file to be tested for the HUD fix. This has an attempt to place the hud correctly for 1600x900 resolution, please give this a test and post screenshots. It will self-extract where it needs to go, easy-peasy. To be worked on: 1440x900 1680x1050
