Pretty sure this will cause problems launching on GameRanger and maybe with the Weapons Mod, right?

It should work. The catch is that 'everyone' who plays must have the same mod or it might cause trouble, like disappearing mechs

I don't see a reason why it would work, unless changing the name of the exe is circumvented by the registry keys....and I really don't know how that all works lol.
And of course what Herby said about same mods.

Also I've always wondered why my alt-tab out went away. Maybe it's the no cd patch gets rid of it somehow, I don't know. Or maybe the gold edition took it out. I haven't been able to alt-tab out since the old days on the zone.

I noticed a difference when I started using the CD instead of the virtual drive. With the virtual drive there was no music in game and I could exit the game without it crashing. With the CD I have music but the game crashes if I try to tab out.

I haven't been able to alt-tab out since the old days on the zone. With Windows 8, the only way I can go back to the desktop without closing the game is CTRL ALT DEL. I do miss ALT TABing.

It's a Windows compatibility setting. The reason renaming Mech3.exe works is because the filename is one criteria used by Windows to detect the game. The reg file included here should disable it. MW3nocompat.zip (766 B) Sometimes this modification doesn't take effect. In this case rightclick on Mech3.exe, change any compatibility setting and click on OK. Then undo your changes and click on OK again.
