I know back in the day of the MSN Gaming Zone, we really only took screenshots of gameplay. Many of those have been lost over the years. On searching for MechWarrior 3 on YouTube, I notice a drought of content, so I started a Channel to add MechWarrior 3 media to YouTube. I know years into the future I will look back on these and be proud of Freako's work on the game and our resurgence after the death of DawgPack and MechWarrior3.org. Here's the link to the Channel: www.youtube.com/channel/UCuFZk3KbVQcCnKQe3CXNJBQ

That match on Villa is the best game we've had in a very long time.

That match on Villa is the best game we've had in a very long time. I agree. It brought back alot of the "oh no, I'm in trouble" feelings and the "well I just respawned. I need to wait to see if my partner dies in 10 seconds so I don't run into a 2 on 1."

Yeah... the 2 on 1 thing... I spent a good deal of time there... getting shot in the back. I love you too Stoney... Chasing a mouse and being stomped by an elephant. Don't give up on me guys. I'll get better. The joystick is too hard to use. It works great on MW4 but it sucks for MW3. I need to set up using more mouse and keyboard. When you use a joystick freelock is out of the question. I miss a lot of good shots because I can't pan far enough.

I use kb and mouse..pretty sure stoney does too. It really is way more versatile. It'll take a little while and you may feel set back for a bit but you'll catch up. Way to hang in there man. Here's my kb config:
basically all movement is done with the numpad and mouse:
Num 8: full throttle Num 5: legs to torso (set left middle finger here as an anchor) Num 2: toggle forward/reverse (use this exclusively rather than speed up or slow down..just stay at full speed and use this to "ghost dance"..but be careful with it because experienced lag shooters know how to catch you "in-between") Num 1: turn left (set left ring finger here as an anchor) Num 3: turn right (set left index here as an anchor) Num Enter: toggle next enemy (reach over with thumb) Num 7: look left Num 9: look right
those are the basics for movement and I anchor my 3 fingers as described as a base from which to jump...the rest are extras
Num /: jump jet forward (use middle finger) Num del: jump jet backward (use thumb) Num 0: toggle reticule zoom/also targets enemy
Mouse:
Left button: fire group Middle button: toggle freelook right button: toggle weapon groups--with this setup you can fire and toggle to next group extremely fast---on ice with large groups of lasers this can be devastating and of course torso twist is done with the mouse, which is set to the x axis I believe (the one that makes the mouse do torso twist lol)
up arrow: return torso to center (after you use either freelook or "look left" and "look right" (num 7-9) right arrow: jump jet straight up
that's pretty much it and the rest are set to default, things like target previous enemy, flush coolant, radar, and so forth.

I'm still having trouble figuring out the aiming of some weapons...
ToDo list: 1) Work on using the mouse more. Gonna take some getting used to. 2) Use the Targeting CPU to my advantage. I need to use the targeting CPU (when available) but a lot of the stock mech configs don't have it. 3) Learn the weapons and how they work so I'm able to function well without the targeting CPU. The lag, though small, doesn't help. 4) Work more on lag shooting different types of moving targets. Some are faster and it's not always the same.

For lag shooting, if the Mech is running full speed on land - aim about 1 Mech ahead. If the Mech is slowing down to a crawl or is stopped, aim right on them. This Mech has the Targeting CPU, but ignore that.

Old thread so sorry for the necro, but I thought it was pretty cool I'm not the only one who thought to put videos up on Youtube of the Mechwarrior series. I have a lot of friends who didn't get to experience this era of gaming so I've just been recording my playthrough of the campaigns. This game doesn't hold up to well in 4k but it's fun.

MW3 is the hardest game to get used to because of the mechanics. Nothing is instantaneous. I like it a 'lot'. It takes intense skill (or great luck) to excel in this game, especially with Freako's SP and MP patches

I was breezing through the campaign on normal and it seemed easier than I remembered, but I'm also 15 years older than the last time I played it so could be that. Once I found the site yesterday I added the mods listed and it made it more difficult in terms of gameplay. Heat management with pulse lasers is more difficult, ballistic weapons have more kick to the target, PPCs have more of a recoil, and hud elements get scrambled when hit by certain weapons. After installing I jumped into a mission and got hit by a salvo of LRM20s and was immediately knocked down and I was sitting here like well that's different. A friend of mine new to the series grabbed MW3 from me yesterday. I think I'll have him get used to the vanilla game first so he doesn't think it's too difficult.
