anyone still have access to the MW3 mech models as .obj? I have a few sporadic examples in my archives but nothing concrete....

thanks buddy, I want to see how some size up in the Darkplaces Engine  . I've realize the code I've been building could be used to make nice homages to mech games of the 90's

Yeah no problem. The thing is eop's 'mech3 model tool extracts them in .cob I think when he first made the tool he was going to do it in .obj but he changed it! Oh well..

found the old Truespace build, did some export magic...gotta say, the Champion looks pretty crisp here  (skins are whack because of the conversion process, and those barrels are my tests for autocannon-style weps)

Nice! One thing 'Mech3 did with the champion that was a screwup was that those two gun barrels in the center torso were attached to the pelvic part of the mesh and created firepoints that only fired in the direction the legs were facing. I've always wanted to take the mesh, put those two barrels (and firepoints) on the torso mesh and import it back into the game, but my command of truespace....well I never really made time for messing with modeling.

ha, I can only imagine the 3d Artist being assigned to the Champion. The official pictures of it, well their interpretations, are all over the place. There is one with those barrels in the pelvis, another shows them as 'chin' guns, some pictures don't have the pelvis in view, I own a copy of the miniature - those barrels look like they're supposed to be a on a chin turret mount similar to the MW4 Mad Dog but its not well detailed to be 'exact.' I could move the guns up to the torso if you need. The only issue is converting between .cob and .obj, the texture coordinates are getting messed up, I'd have to figure out how to preserve those or just work in Truespace....

Yeah, "chin barrels" like on the veng vulture sounds a lot better.

Another mistake they made with the champion was with the missile rack firepoints: the missile racks were made to be part of the arm meshes, but because the torso firepoints are on the torso mesh you can blow off the arms and still have missiles flying out of the torso with no missile racks. It's always be an oddity with the champion in 'mech3. The arms each have 3 firepoints, and if I were to do it over again I would either set the torso firepoints on the missile racks as part of the arm that can get blown off, or (and this makes more sense) make the missile racks part of the torso mesh, and have the arms break off where they connect to the missile racks.

but you have to remember the solutions above take into account working with the 'mech3 engine, which would be limited to only those choices. (if eop were helping me)

One more detail of note regarding the above...the firefly has the same issue, 2 firepoints are on "fixed" gunbarrels attached to the torso, and you might want to put these gunbarrels on the torso mesh as a "chin gun" as mentioned above.
Also--I have that Atlas mesh made by one of the members here, SummonerC, who was doing a mod of MC2 switching out the game's Vengeance style meshes/textures with 'mech3 mechs. This Atlas he made with my critiquing was going to be used if I ever got around to figuring out how to put it in 'mech3 to replace the Annihilator. You could throw this in just for shits n giggles...it's a hell of a fine looking Atlas. There might be a link to it in the thread we were working from. You'll run into the same mesh/texture lineup issue which I hope you solved.
