I never tried playing 1, I never played 2, Mechwarrior 4 sucks to me; but Mechwarrior 3 is great. The third one is the charm. Edit: Ok I can play MW4 vengeance, but MW4 mercenaries is too "new" for my windows xps.

Whoa! How did I not see this sooner!? I finally get to play 2! I think 4 gets a lot more hate than it deserves though

I like 4 but it's not as immersive as 3. 3 got it right. Mech movements and physics are perfect in 3. All others only come close.

I see what you mean about 3, and I've always preferred it in terms of actual presentation of the mechs, but I find the hardpoint system in 4 to be a lot better for balancing and it's a bit friendlier to joystick users like myself. Plus with the mektek packs there's just so much to choose from. Love them both though, been playing them since I was a wee lad.

I totally agree with your hard points and Joystick use in MW4. Part of the reason for the lack of physics in 4 is to allow better joystick play and mech control. It's a double edged sword though because the delay and physics is what made MW3 the best simulation game. I definitely prefer a good simulator game. It could be the best of both worlds if we could add target acquisition/lock to the targeting computer and edit the hard point layouts for MW3.

I've always thought that the best "True MechWarrior Experience" would be something of a hybrid between 3 and 4. It's sad that Mektek had to stop working on 4:Mercs, because they were actually starting to get kind of close to that. Still a bit too fast and silly in the animations, but we were super close to getting independent arm movement, range finding systems for artillery, and directional thrusters for jump jets. Like, just look at this. It makes me so sad that we can't get our hands on this.
