When I first played MechWarrior 3, I was a total newb to the internet. Here's what I did with my first computer(600 mhz speed): installed Windows, then installed my 56k modem program, then installed MechWarrior 3. How I played: I would use the Arrow keys to control the mech. I would use the Comma and Period keys to turn my torso(while I used my left hand, right was stuck on the arrows.) Unless I was aiming/firing, then my hand came off my torso twist control and onto my mouse. And of course I used the space bar to Jump Jet. As I said, total newb to the internet. This was my first real PC game too and I went straight online for the abuse. A few years later I switched to using W A S D keys and mostly playing c1(lasers) when the dark side of leaving casual play and entering into the rush of League Play began for me. This now ment I used the Right Click for my torso twist. I do admit using the first newb version of a control set up really help me feel like I was in a mech and I believe it helped my Stock Mech games.

We had a Pentium II. The one time I tried to login to the Zone it pretty much made a bunch of sounds but wouldn't let me move for 10 minutes until I shut it down. Whoops. It mostly worked for single player though. I never changed the default controls. Then again, I was never any good anyway.

I wonder how many players got put off by 'Mech3's many multiplayer problems? Anyway, I had a windows ME Compaq that I played on. Eventually upgraded it with a radeon video card. I basically mimicked the standard controls by re-mapping them to the numpad, and only used 2 speeds, 100% and stop. Legs to torso was on the 5 key, toggle forward/reverse the 2 key, 1 and 3 turn left/turn right, left click mouse fire, right click mouse toggle weapons groups, and that was basically it and I still use it to this day.

Well I didn't really play much MW3 back in 1999 (I was 4 years old lol) but I do recall my old man using a MASC'd Puma with as many flamers crammed into the thing as possible.
