I was working on my mod of Pirate's Moon, Escape from Tranquil, and after numerous test "play-throughs" to see how my new textures were working out...the game stopped working...as in it wouldn't boot up from double-clicking the .exe. I wondered if maybe the cd-rom was over-heating so I tested it with 'Mech 4..no problem. Oh well, if I don't solve this mystery it's ok I can re-install and do it all over again I guess.   |

All is well. I did the re-install, and then replaced all the modded files, so that narrows it down to NOT being any of the modded files as the cause.
Strangest thing. My HD only had 4 gb of space left, and GIMP is a pretty resource-hoggish program. Could be maybe the lack of free space caused a random glitch/corruption somewhere? Who knows. It could be the game is a little unstable with all the texture changes which in turn may lead to a random corruption? If anyone has any theories I'd love to hear them.

4gb left?  well, from experience, once a hard drive passes a certain percentage of available space, fragmentation issues start making their problems known. if theres less than (if i remember correctly) 15% of available space then thats when odd drive errors start to happen. spose knowing your system specs would be a little beneficial in troubleshooting a lock/no start situation (hardware, os, temps, etc). when you say 4 gigs left is only relative in knowing how big the drive is originally... 4 gigs out of a 20 gig drive is nominal, where as 4 gigs out of a terabyte is insane... |

Thanks MindDrive, I'll look up my specs and get back to this thread. It's an older xp dell, I'm sure it's not very impressive. It does have a decent radeon vid card though, 256 mb ram on it.

system specs? i have a HUGE pile of drives just sitting around (ide) that for all general purposes are nothing more than space takers... if you'd like one i would be more n happy to give ya one

8.4GB
20GBx3
40GBx2
60GB
120gb or 240? its installed but nothing on it in my server computer
i know they arent the hugest of hard drives by todays standards, but they would work great as slaves for page file usage or whatever
