So I recently built myself a new gaming rig. It's not top of the line or anything but everything in it is very much current gaming tech, and it uses Windows 7.
I know for a fact that MechWarrior 3 really didn't get along too well with my laptop, also running Windows 7. Still, I get in a weird curious mood and try to see if it'll work at all on this new one, despite NONE of it being legacy tech or anything....AND IT WORKS.
Yeah, It's got a few strange little audio things here and there but considering I just popped it in and started playing, I'd say this is going absurdly smoothly.
It gets a little bit of lag there at the end, but I'm fairly certain that was due to fraps.
Update: I tried to play the campaign. The first mission worked fine, but in the second one, the game had a hard time recognizing when I had completed an objective. There was also a missile platform which was glitched and could not be destroyed. Also non-mech vehicles seemed to disappear. I don't know if this was do to them driving off when I wasn't paying attention or because of a bug.
Either way I'm very happy with how well this is working so far, and any suggestions for the problems I mentioned would be very appreciated.

The vehicle bug happens, as does the missile platform bug. The objective bug is program related...you need to step over nav alpha and complete that objective before proceeding to the final nav point. It's a common decision to skip that first objective because of the need to go destroy the missile platform...and then since you're half-way there just proceed to the final nav, but you can't, you have to go back and walk over nav alpha. (capture the little village)
The other bugs are probably graphics related, EOP's res patch might fix them. Not sure if the patch fixes the missile platform, but in my experience it doesn't "disappear" every time you play the mission. Honestly I've only seen it happen once, but I've only ever played on XP.

Yeah, makes sense. I have installed the verson 1.2 patch since then and that seems to have cleared up most of the remaining problems, the only one left being that I will occasionally fall through the ground (Which results in hilarity on maps with underground tunnels).
And just for the heck of it I thought I would see if the Pirate's Moon expansion works as well and it seems to be working as well so far. I'm honestly kind of shocked at how well this is going, considering Mech3's track record for hating new computers.

Well do me a favor and try out that weapons mod! And keep pirate's moon installed, I'll have something up for that as well eventually.

Just wait until you load the improved AI modules...(instant action new locations, campaign added enemies) You'll need to brush up on lateral movement if you want to survive dude..

Oh trust me I know haha. I'm still getting the hang of MechWarrior 3's handling. The vast, VAST majority of my experience is with 4.
Also, please tell me that you plan to do some sort of weapons module for Pirate's Moon as well. That would make me so very happy.

It's already 90% done. However, the mech3 module still has some tweaks coming in version 2.1, which I will put in the PM weapons module, so there's extra work to be done but I'll get there. All pretty much the same weapons adjustments/replacements with a few additional replacements: Bombast laser(MechWarrior3 style), LightPPC, Streak LRM's, Long Tom...to name a few. Oh, and what do you think about 100 waves of instant action progression? Think you got the stones for that? hahahaha #madscientistlaugh

That sounds pretty sweet! I can't wait to try out all the new crazy loadout possibilities!
I don't suppose there is any chance of there being any additional mech mods out there, like the mekpaks for Mercenaries? I would absolutely love to see something like the Hauptmann in Mech3/PM. It's kind of my favorite mech haha.
And oh goodness. 100 waves? I'd try, but I don't know how far I can make it!

I don't know if you saw, but in another thread here I recently put up an Atlas SummonerC and I worked on and are trying to put into the game as a replacement for the Annihilator in Mech3. However, I was recently talking to someone about the possibility of adding mechs to the game, although it does not seem likely but I'm always looking into it anyway.

Yoga, I was wondering about the specs for your new system that plays Mech3. I'm planning on a new system myself and want to get it right.

This video right here is what I followed to build my new machine. It's relatively cheap, and works great if you ask me. I do need to redo the wiring so that it doesn't heat up quite so much but that has more to do with me being an amateur than the parts themselves.

Yup. I originally planed to upgrade it from there, but now that I know this thing is able to run some of my favorite older games, I'm kind of afraid to mess with it haha.
