Freako has some really nice stock mech builds in his mod. Maybe he will tell you a few of them.

Some of our best basic configs from league play with basic explanations:
Laser Mech on Ice Maps: Strider with 14 ER Ms in 2 groups of 7. about 6 tons of armor, no back or arm armor.
Laser Mech on Hot Maps: Strider with 10 ER Ss in 1 group. same as above about armor
AutoCannon Mech on Unlimited Ammo settings Ice Maps: Avatar with 3 UAC 20's group fired, little armor.
Missle Mech on Ice Maps: a Daishi or Anni with a TON of LRM 5's that you link fire from max distance at the enemy.
Flamer Mech: take a ShadowCat with fast speed, MASC, AMS, JJs, little armor. load up 8-10 Flamers for a Stock Map or 16 Flamers for an Ice Map

I will try this out. Don't shoot all the lasers at once while using jump jets. It's a good idea to let the heat dissipate fully first. Using jump jets and firing all lasers can make for a really neat fireball

When I tried to get the game to work past O1m2 I had... Bushwacker w/ full ISFF armor 1 large ER laser 2 medium lasers 5 machine guns (4 IS & 1 Clan) LOADS of MG ammo. It's an early hard-scrabble loadout when you don't have much to begin with--and it LOVES to eat other battlemech's legs. Who says machine guns are useless?
