and I can't get into the servers because the game says I have modded files. A Google search says I have a corrupted download. I downloaded this twice from the main website.

So I watched a bunch of mwll videos recently, and saw the same things I dislike about mwo. Don't get me wrong, the graphics are awesome...but for the engine they're using...the things that are lacking ..well there's just no excuse other than the devs truly don't understand what makes a Battletech simulation great. 1) The mechs move like walking boxes. I mentioned in another post about how torsos should bob up and down in a slow lumbering way, like there's weight to the machine; how the pelvic structure should adjust to the leg movement; Although I didn't see this in the videos... I'd bet the torsos don't rock visually when hit by bigger weapons. These things are simply non-existent in MWLL. 2) The feet/legs don't contact the terrain naturally; Sometimes it looks like the mech is floating across the terrain rather than walking...this is something mwll shares with mwo, although not as bad as mwo. 3) Of course, there's no tree damage or terrain damage. 4) OHH, don't let me forget to mention the cockpit damage simulations...I couldn't believe how cheesy they were, like it was MechWarrior 2 or something. Not only that but I didn't see any cockpit interiors. WOW. I was dumbfounded. And the PPC's are silent? what? exactly..
It's sad that these subtle, yet crucial concepts don't get implemented in a Sim, especially given the modern capabilities of the game engines. Truly sad. I'm even sadder because I really wanted to like mwll.

As someone who has played MW:LL and absolutely hates MW:O I can see why you'd be bugged by those things Freko, but also can see why things are the way they are. The weird mech animations and the like were largely the result of technical limitations. I actually had a dev explain to me that they don't use virtual cockpits, and the camera is actually mounted inside of the model, so if the torso were to bounce around too much visibility would be impossible. I'm sure there'd be a way for them to work around this eventually, but that obviously won't happen since development has stopped. While it was still very lacking compared to MW3 and MW4, I found it to be a much more enjoyable experience than MW:O purely on the merits of its balancing and pacing.

I can appreciate your opinion, and someday I will have a rig that can play either game and most likely I will give LL a try. But, the main purpose of my future PC upgrade will be to develop my own MechWarrior mod.
My first priority will be getting the aforementioned Mech movements and animations right, that's for sure. I think in Mech3 they somehow incorporated a virtual "gyro" inside the mech, which in a "mecha reality" would be a necessity anyway. In Mech3, this has the effect of allowing the torso/cockpit animations to move independently of the "reticule". I don't think Mech4 did it quite as well though, but there certainly was torso shake in mech4.

Dan, I can appreciate your view on LL and can even agree with them to a point. What you do not mention and leads me to believe that you may not realize, MW:LL was a mod built on Crysis, for free by a revolving door team of devs. I was at the time and still am willing to overlook he games short comings because it was several steps in the right direction for mechwarrior. This was at a time when no one was doing anything to carry the torch forward in the mech universe. The vids you saw may have been early beta or even alpha footage. I know for a fact there is ppc sounds. In short, LL is not perfect but it is still much better than mwo will ever hope to be. Of all the titles, MW3 is still my favorite.

Oh I agree, the MechWarrior fanbase needed LL very badly, and yes what they did is hugely admirable. Like I said, I will probably give it a try someday. Your opinion of it is worth a lot, that's for sure.
