Please note that this is for NVidia users and not for Radeon users.
Anisotropic filtering - off Antialiasing FXAA - off Antialiasing Gamma Correction - off Antialiasing mode - off Antialiasing setting - none Antialiasing transparency - off CUDA GPUs - Global Maximum Pre-rendered frames - 4 or 1 Multi display/mixed-GPU Acceleration - Compatibility performance mode Power Management mode - Global (Adaptive Shader Cache - Global (on) Texture Filtering Anisotropic Sample Optimization - on Texture Filtering Negative LOD Bias - Allow Texture Filtering quality - Quality Texture Filtering Trilinear optimization - on *Threaded Optimization - off Triple Buffering - off *Vertical Sync - Adaptive (Half refresh rate)
*-this is the most important setting for mechwarrior 3 and Pirate's Moon
and pow, it worked!

I think it would be helpful if you put up your system specs too my friend, including OS

i put everything on auto and the only problem i have is occasionally i get stuck in the air :/
i tried maxing the cards settings and launched the game and went into the mechlab. the mechs were hollow and only showed skin textures on the edges during rotation. When I launched instant action it was blurred and smeared pixilation and artifacts all over. Figured maxing out the cards capabilities would slow them down but no, they only messed the game up. I plan on going through each setting one at a time and maxing it out, launching the game, then seeing which one, or combination of settings triggers a glitch. As of now, the game runs ok in instant action with the occasional getting stuck in the air.
i7 960 @3.2GHz 6GB DDR3 10666 EVGA X58 SLI3 motherboard EVGA GFORCE 450x3 SLI+1 (2 cards linked for 1920x1080 resolution with 1 card for system monitoring at 1280x1024) 150GB western digital velociraptor primary (boot) 1000GB western digital blue slave drive (page file partition/programs install partition)

MindDrive, You want to make the card work as hard as possible, antialiassing maxed will help with this, the tearing has something to do with v-sync, it has been a long time since I have had an nvidea card so bear with me. Also make sure your monitor refresh is set to 60hz for mw3. I also had issues with the system locking up if my monitor resolution was set differently than in game resolution.
Finally, once you have the game running smoothly, set a profile for the game in the nvidea control panel for mw3 so that those settings automatically launch when you launch the game.

I did max everything out... was gonna post screenshots, but its not necessary. Maxing out all the settings was like trying to play using digital finger paints (ppc were awesome) OFF or auto with these cards in the config theyre in is the only successful way it really works "out of the box"
pixilated and does not work: (basically max settings) ambient occlusion : ON anisotropic filtering : 16x antialiasing - FXAA : ON antialiasing - Gamma Correction : ON antialiasing - mode : application controlled, off, enhance or override application setting (this did not have any effect either way) antialiasing - setting : SLI 64x CSAA antialiasing - transparency : 8x (super sample) CUDA - GPUs : ALL Maximum pre-rendered frames : 4 multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration : multiple display performance mode power management mode : prefer maximum performance SLI rendering mode : (this setting did not alter game performance) NVIDIA recommended, single GPU, Force alternate frame rendering 1, force alternate frame rendering 2 shader cache : on texture filtering - anisotropc sample optimization : on texture filtering - negative LOD bias : Allow texture filtering - quality : high quality texture filtering - trilinear optimization : on threaded optimization : on triple buffering : on vertical sync : on virtual reality pre-rendered frames : 4
that's "max settings" which completely garble up the game--- completely.... well except the loading screen, title screen, and menu screens, once in mechlab/planet side its all junk. now setting anything and everything that has an "auto" or "NVidia recommended" setting allows the game to function properly with the exception of jump jets getting stuck (usually after launching out of a crater or clipping something on the way up) this has been the curse since win2k/xp came out no matter if it was 32bit or 64 bit OS version. getting "stuck" in the air usually happens when using 3 jumpjets and maxing out the jump height for me. havnt done any OPS missions to see what the NPC vehicles/mechs do but im sure they'll bounce and fwoosh take off. I still say the main problem is the os interaction with the file system... though I havnt tested this installing xp on a fat32 drive (I should, I have enough of them) I have however used a virtual machine and installed winME and 98SE and installed mw3 with great success in comparison to the xp/vista/win7 curse... even supports the sidewinder. From what I've experienced, the virtual machine is something similar to an old P3 900MHz oem onboard graphics/audio machine that has full access to the host computers lan/resources etc... just limit it to 512MB's of ram and 20 gigs of virtual hard drive space (actually takes up 20 gigs of real space)
havnt had much time to go through each setting and document results just yet, but when I do, I will definitely post my findings and when the game goes belly up

btw... everything set to "auto" or NVidia recommended/off etc, instant action works great, except the jump jets getting stuck in the air....
