The map tool: Where do we find it?
1) At a glance: How do we determine which 'reader' goes with which map? 2) At a glance: Which 'readers' are the stock maps? 3) Finding duplicates: We're split up into several groups. How will we coordinate and find duplicates across team boundaries?

Also, why not merge the boards? They seem to be rather similar

ok you're all added. I suggest that everyone who wants to help this effort install finnegan mccool's multiplayer mission editor and get familiar with it by reading the instructions and exploring maps. I've attached it to the "inspect/fix" team 1st card for everyone. Also, all cards should have the dropbox powerup enabled so we can upload our work for each other. Let's try to stay organized. It's attached to the "inspect/fix" team, card #1. Click on it, you'll find it in the dropbox account I set up.

I inspected this on Trello today. I will slowly over time see what maps I can identify as repeats. I'm pretty busy at times, so progress will be slow, but progress will be made.

Here's my work examining some of the c1 folder for repeats(my pet peeve for maps) using the Mission Editor.
c1\readermp6 - KU Frozen Splash - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp9 - Starr 1st - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp12 - Misty Mountain Hop - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp13 - Power Station Pandemonium - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp20 - GREEN HOUSE - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp25 - Ice Arena - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp32 - Arena - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp33 - SplashDown - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp34 - IceSplash - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp36 - ICECOAST-II - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp37 - ICEPLEX-II - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp38 - White Christmas - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp39 - White Christmas2 - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp43 - UFP Cold Shoulder - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp44 - DAWGS Perfect Circle II - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp47 - Rooftop Fun - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp48 - Rooftop Fun (Ice) - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp66 - DarkShapes Arena - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp91 - Starr 2nd - repeat of Ice Ring c1\readermp92 - Starr 3rd - repeat of Ice Ring

Dang!! Those are all repeats from one folder... Looks like you're on the way to really cutting down on maps. The way you're going we'll be lucky to get a couple dozen good maps. Are you deleting them as you go? It might be a good idea. Then when you're done we can go through them without having to back track all your progress. Just upload the finished folder.

ok hold on just a sec. Just because they're in the same area doesn't make them a repeat map. Do they have all the same spawn points? Did the author use different things like temperatures, weather, different fog? Remember: People MADE these maps. We still have to respect AUTHORSHIP. To me a repeat map is exactly that, a map that has the same title, respawns, and everything else...and there are only a few of those. Just because STONEWALL gets annoyed at repeats doesn't mean we trash maps that other people made.
Stoney, if you want to address what you're trying to address then wait for the next project, which is going to be a web page devoted to a descriptive categorization of all the maps after this project gets done, then you can use Finnegan's Multiplayer Map Manager to "close out" as many repeats as you want on your own PC.
I can tell you this right off the bat, Misty Mountain Hop and Powerstation Pandemonium are my creations and I don't want them deleted. Power Station Pandemonium is NOTHING like Ice Ring because it all takes place near the powerstation. It's kind of like a Durgan City type map. Just because it has to use the Ice Ring island radar map doesn't mean it's a repeat of Ice Ring.

I understand your concern but is it really necessary to have 20 maps of the same terrain with minute differences? Most will probably never be used or used only once anyway. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to just have 3, or 4 maps with large differences? I've noticed some maps are just hard to navigate and/or use hideous colors.

As I said, that's the job of the categorization/listing project, and if you want to narrow down the choices on your computer use the map manager. I believe it's on the mechwarriorsunited.com main site downloads page and it's pretty simple to use. Check it out.

I guess I did too. I figured we were going to weed out the bad and duplicate maps and produce a simplified and consistent map pack for MP.
