Well, that's a great idea but there's one major reason why it won't work, and its credibility is destroyed right off the bat.... Microsoft doesn't own the Mechwarrior IP anymore, Jordan Weissman re-aquired it and licensed it to piranna. So, whoever started that petition, although their heart was in the right place...was a knucklehead.
Jordan Weissman needs to be petitioned.

Ah, Dan, I think weissman licensed the ip and sold said license to igp. m$ still owns the ip. So far as I know.

Microsoft either had separation anxiety, or Piranha did not have a large enough war chest to make a complete purchase. Bizarre. I thought Piranha owned it outright as well.

Unfortunately, I seriously doubt it...1) Microsoft has only been interested in xbox products for quite some time (check this link) www.microsoft.com/games/ their official website- now go click on the "windows 8" button- you essentially get a 404 not found error. That's right folks, even for windows 8 which microsoft has been trying to push on PC users like crazy, they don't even care enough to make a page for "microsoft games" for PCs; really sad. 2) The Mechwarrior IP has not had a PC game since 2002 under microsoft. The most recent games were for Xbox (of course) and they were Mechassault (2002) and Mechassault 2 (2004) They have been sitting on the franchise and IP for years doing next to nothing with any of it. I assume the real reason they have the rights is a corporate policy decision. Nobody lets go of IP (especially large corporations), unless a lot of money is involved. I would really like to see the franchise back under Activision.

Honestly I don't want to see Battletech in the hands of any of the major publishers right now. Microsoft does nothing with it, EA would turn it into microtransactions-tech, lord knows what Ubisoft would do! As for the Activision that brought us MechWarrior 1 and 2, that company has been gone for a long, long time. Now they just want to churn out their annual CoD releases and continue to print money.
Frankly I would much rather see it bought by Cloud Imperium Games assuming that Star Citizen is successful.

How about leaving it in the hands of the fans? Had MW:LL been allowed to continue, it would be the best mw title hands down.

Well one of the founding developers of MW:LL is currently on Star Citizen, so I'm hoping for a potential Battletech conversion mod for that game somewhere down the line. It's a long shot, but I can still dream.
